Today is Tuesday! You know what that means? Its PC Game review time! Today I am gonna talk a walk back in time so to speak, and talk about a game that not many people have played, and possibly even heard of. What game is this you ask?
This game is a First Person Shooter, written by one of the masters of horror, Clive Barker. In Undying you play as a man named Patrick Galloway, who is answering a summons from an old war friend Jeremiah Covenant. Sounds pretty simple eh? Well, apparently Patrick has some stranges powers granted to him by a mystic item called the Gelzibar Stone, and is generally called upon to deal with occult matters by various people.
When Patrick reaches the home of Jeremiah, he finds that his friend is gravely ill, and that most of his family is dead. Jeremiah however thinks that his family is coming back in strange and frightening ways. There is howl, and you are off.
Thus begins the freakshow of Clive Barker’s Undying.
The game itself is single player only. For me, that wasnt a big deal. There are a variety of weapons, including a shotgun with 2 kinds of ammo, your trusty pistol, an ancient Tibetan War Cannon, and even a Sythe.
Beyond that, you also get access to a plethora of spells, and you can upgrade these permanently via Powerups. Scrye plays a huge part in the game, allowing you to see past events, and other supernatural things. You can use it while viewing a painting for an example, and see a hidden meaning. Some of the stuff you see is a wee bit…gruesome.
The gameplay is old school, plain and simple, and the graphics are a bit dated. But the storyline, and the way the game grabs hold and sometimes messes with you is amazing. I remember very clearly the time I opened a door while trying to find a maid and…well you will see if you ever play the game.
I give Clive Barker’s Undying a 3/5. I suggest you find it and give it a shot, but I advise against playing it in the dark with surround sound. *shudders*
Also some news: As of today I got into the Stress Test for Hellgate London. I will post my thoughts on the game once the NDA is lifted and the game goes live, so keep an eye out. I will make sure to have some screenshots as well.
