Welcome to Hellgate!

Ah yes, since the game has been released for purchase I can talk about it. Today’s PC Review is about Hellgate London. And the easiest way I can describe Hellgate London? Diablo 2 in 1st/3rd person and a sci fi setting. Thats is literally what the game is. If you have played Diablo 2 I almost guarentee the game will seem similar. Amazingly similar.

Graphically, the game is a tad…bland. Everything at least to me, looked exactly the same. After going to the overworld twice and realizing I could have been a block away from where I was before, just sorta made me go blah. And then the maintenince tunnels that they use for everything. Wooo hoo another maintenience tunnel! Go me! And dont forget your subway tunnels! Lots of those!

Beyond that, the game is decent. Gameplay is easy to get used to, is very MMO ish, and each class has its own strengths. I picked the Engineer, and had a blast as I shot rockets and had a robot fire rockets thus making every pack of enemies just sorta keel over. But, truth be told, the game play and story and even the setting were…forgetable.

I give Hellgate London a 2/5

No Gaming news, but I got news!

Sorry for the lack of updates over the weekend. I realized something on Sunday, and its going to change my update schedule yet again. I work Saturday’s, and because my coworkers are so damn lazy, I am stuck doing most of the work. This leaves me little time for anything else, and when I get home I am all sorts of braindead and want nothing to do with a PC.

And Sunday is the day I get to spend time with my family, as my other day off is spent running errands. So from now on, there will be no posts on Saturday or Sunday. The new update schedule is over in the side bar, and you will notice that Friday’s are now the Surprise day. So on Friday I will post rants, or website reviews, or anything else.

Also, there was no real gaming news that I could find this morning! BAH SAYS I!

EN World, Home of the Ennies!

What is EN World and what is an Ennie I bet you are asking. Well, if you are not a tabletop gamer like me who surfs the web looking for news and such, then I doubt you ever heard of EN World or what they do. EN World is a place where D20 news is collected and posted, as well as a gathering place for gamers via forum and chat, and a shop as well. EN World currently is probebly the best place to go for 4th Edition news, as alot of their members scour the WotC Game Dev blogs, looking for tasty tidbits of news and information. Beyond this, the site doesn’t really offer much, however it does boost a large and fairly decent community and does support d20 gamers, as well as provide new and interesting advetures and some neat tools.

I give EN World a 4/5.

Oh, and an Ennie is an aware they give out to what they consider some of the best in new gaming products and fansites. I hope one day to win an Ennie myself, so if you go there, make sure to nominate me.

No Rant? Say what!

Today there will be no rant. Why I am sure you are asking? Bceause I am just not angry enough to rant this week. My week has been going too good to be angry. So no, no rant. Sorry folks!

However, if you notice over in the Sidebar, I am now a member of XBox Live. My Gamertag is Stomphoof. If you want, send me a message or something!

Are you a Guitar Hero?

Ok I know its a late update, but its better then never, don’t you think? Generally I would post while at work early in the morning but my work has decided that I shant be allowed online! HA SAYS I! I shall endevour to try to post earlier, but this evening I was distracted by my brand new Xbox 360, and Bioshock. I won the 360 in a contest at work, and bought Bioshock.

Anyway, tonights review deals with the recently released Guitar Hero 3 which I purchased for my Playstation 2. (I happend to get this 3 days before the 360, blah). Anyway, on to the review!

The premise behind Guitar Hero is simple: Pick up a Guitar shaped controller with 5 buttons (Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, Orange) and strum along to songs using those buttons as the frets. For people who actually know how to play a guitar the game is very difficult, but for those of us who dont, or in my case are learning, the game is a blast.

Its not for everyone. Holding a guitar correctly can be a strain until you are used to it. My wife for example, while now having been sucked into the game, still can only play a song or two before her wrist starts to hurt. I can go for a good 2 hours before small pain sets in.

The set list for 3 is amazing. I happen to own both 2 and 3, and have both the wired SG Controller for GH 2, and the wireless Kramer controller for GH 3. Anyway, the setlist for 3 outstripes 2 by far. More original recordings, fresher venues and more interesting storyline. Yes, GH 3 has a storyline!

Some of the songs I personally enjoy:

“Slow Ride” – Foghat
“Barracuda” – Heart
“Bulls on Parade” – Rage Against the Machine
“The Seeker” – The Who
“Paint It, Black” – The Rolling Stones
“Paranoid” – Black Sabbath
“Even Flow” – Pearl Jam
“Same Old Song and Dance” – Aerosmith
“La Grange” – ZZ Top
“Black Magic Woman” – Santana
“Cherub Rock” – The Smashing Pumpkins
“Black Sunshine” – White Zombie
“The Metal” – Tenacious D
“3’s & 7’s” – Queens of the Stone Age
“The Number of the Beast” – Iron Maiden

Thats quite a few of the basic songs. These do not include the bonus songs, the big one being “Through the Fire and Flames” by DragonForce (which is unlocked after completing Career Mode in any difficulty)

All in all, for a basic Musical Game, Guitar Hero is amazing, and the only possible game that might beat it will be Rock Band, which I will also be getting (Guitar for me!)

I give GH 3 a 4/5
