Ok I know its a late update, but its better then never, don’t you think? Generally I would post while at work early in the morning but my work has decided that I shant be allowed online! HA SAYS I! I shall endevour to try to post earlier, but this evening I was distracted by my brand new Xbox 360, and Bioshock. I won the 360 in a contest at work, and bought Bioshock.
Anyway, tonights review deals with the recently released Guitar Hero 3 which I purchased for my Playstation 2. (I happend to get this 3 days before the 360, blah). Anyway, on to the review!
The premise behind Guitar Hero is simple: Pick up a Guitar shaped controller with 5 buttons (Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, Orange) and strum along to songs using those buttons as the frets. For people who actually know how to play a guitar the game is very difficult, but for those of us who dont, or in my case are learning, the game is a blast.
Its not for everyone. Holding a guitar correctly can be a strain until you are used to it. My wife for example, while now having been sucked into the game, still can only play a song or two before her wrist starts to hurt. I can go for a good 2 hours before small pain sets in.
The set list for 3 is amazing. I happen to own both 2 and 3, and have both the wired SG Controller for GH 2, and the wireless Kramer controller for GH 3. Anyway, the setlist for 3 outstripes 2 by far. More original recordings, fresher venues and more interesting storyline. Yes, GH 3 has a storyline!
Some of the songs I personally enjoy:
“Slow Ride” – Foghat
“Barracuda” – Heart
“Bulls on Parade” – Rage Against the Machine
“The Seeker” – The Who
“Paint It, Black” – The Rolling Stones
“Paranoid” – Black Sabbath
“Even Flow” – Pearl Jam
“Same Old Song and Dance” – Aerosmith
“La Grange” – ZZ Top
“Black Magic Woman” – Santana
“Cherub Rock” – The Smashing Pumpkins
“Black Sunshine” – White Zombie
“The Metal” – Tenacious D
“3’s & 7’s” – Queens of the Stone Age
“The Number of the Beast” – Iron Maiden
Thats quite a few of the basic songs. These do not include the bonus songs, the big one being “Through the Fire and Flames” by DragonForce (which is unlocked after completing Career Mode in any difficulty)
All in all, for a basic Musical Game, Guitar Hero is amazing, and the only possible game that might beat it will be Rock Band, which I will also be getting (Guitar for me!)
I give GH 3 a 4/5
