Oh boy Christmas is coming Early!

They shipped!  I had placed the order back a few days ago, and they (Brun and Lug, Horthol, and the Elder) shipped today!  I am very excited actually as I want to try my hand at 750.

Also, a friend of mine is willing to sell me some Khador stuff if I want to get into that.  He has the Battle Box, Butcher, and a Kodiak and is willing to part with those for $38 bucks, which is more then worth it to me.  I am seriously considering that as I really want to play Khador in addition to my Trolls.

Getting ready for a Tournament

So on the 14th of November my FLGS is having the last Mk1 Tournament of the year.  I thought about it and decided I want to go for it.  Now this week, on Friday, I will be putting in an order to get the rest of the stuff I need to go to 750 with my Grim List.  If you don’t remember, here is my original 750:

Faction: Trollblood
Points: 740
Model Count: 23
Victory Points: 26

Grim Angus
Troll Impaler
Troll Impaler
Dire Troll Mauler
Brun Cragback
> Lug

Fell Caller
Horthol, Long Rider Champion
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes    [6] (2 added)
> Stone Scribe Elder    [1]
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew    [2]
Trollkin Champions    [5]

The bolded items being the ones I will be getting.  However, after thinking a bit during the week I came up with what I thought was a more solid 750 list with Grim.  This however would be more expensive:

Faction: Trollblood
Points: 744
Model Count: 24
Victory Points: 27

Grim Angus
Troll Impaler
Dire Troll Mauler
Brun Cragback
> Lug

Fell Caller
Horthol, Long Rider Champion
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes    [5] (1 added)
> Stone Scribe Elder    [1]
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew    [2]
Trollkin Champions    [5]
Trollkin Long Riders    [3] (0 added)

The major difference here is the addition of the Long Riders and the removal of the Impaler.  I am not sure which to go with, as I can go with either by the 14th.  Thoughts?

Going to 750

So I think its time for me to take the plunge and start going to 750 with my Trolls.  I have 2 lists I am thinking about.  One is using Grim, and the second is Calandra.

Faction: Trollblood
Points: 740
Model Count: 23
Victory Points: 26

Grim Angus
Troll Impaler
Troll Impaler
Dire Troll Mauler
Brun Cragback
> Lug

Fell Caller
Horthol, Long Rider Champion
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes    [6] (2 added)
> Stone Scribe Elder    [1]
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew    [2]
Trollkin Champions    [5]

This is the Grim list.  The bolded items are the ones I would need to purchase.  As you can see its not much.  I fully inteded to get Brun and Lug next month, and possibly the Elder as well just to get it.   I would still need Horthol to finish it up however.  I could get him in December.

The second list, featuring Calandra, is a wee bit different:

Faction: Trollblood
Points: 748
Model Count: 22
Victory Points: 26

Calandra Truthsayer, Oracle of the Glimmerwood
Troll Impaler
Dire Troll Mauler
Mulg The Ancient
Fell Caller
Horthol, Long Rider Champion
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes    [4] (0 added)
> Stone Scribe Elder    [1]
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew    [2]
Trollkin Champions    [5]
Trollkin Long Riders    [3] (0 added)

Once again, the bolded items are the ones I would be missing.  I went with 2 heavies as Calandra can run beasts a bit hot thanks to Soothing Song.  Furthermore, the application of Star Crossed will drive most of my opponents insane.  The Long Riders give me a long reaching threat, and with Horthol they will be even more dangerous.  The Elder and KSB will give me ways to power up my Champs or protect them as needed, and the Gobbers can cause even more issues with -2 MAT, which I will apply to anything stupid enough to try to hit my Champs.  It would be a damn fine brick.

Finally, Mulg is a straight beatstick and with a Mauler I can cast Rage on Mulg for even MORE pain.

I am completely not sure which way to go.  If I go with the Calandra list then Brun and Lug will not be purchased, and instead I will be getting Mulg.

Thoughts?

Saturday Night Gaming

So this evening, to celebrate my promotion (No longer on the phones whoohoo!) I decided to spend my afternoon at my FLGS and getting some games in.  Overall, I did ok.  I lost 2 games, and won 1.  Sadly I dont remember a whole lot save for once again a few highlights:

Game 1:  Against Legion, he was using Absylonia, and had 2 Seraphs, some swordsman, a shedder, and a Carniveran.  It was a league game, and the scenario was a control point one.  If you held a control point you got a point, and you only needed 3 total.  At turn 2 he had both points and had 2 points.  I just conceded at that point as I had no way to dislodge him from both.  Ah well.

Game 2:  Non league, against Khador.  He used pVlad, Beast, the Drakun calv, Aiyanna/Holt, Great Bears, Alten, and Widowmakers, and 1 Manhunter.  He got me straight caster kill.  I was testing Calandra in both the first and the second game, and I do like Star Crossed, but I don’t feel I have an “optimal” list for her.  I also forgot her feat twice which would have made a world of difference.  Prolly would have kept my Champs up against Beast and the Bears.

Game 3:  Against Menoth, yet another league game.  This was the Rematch that John wanted, and again it was Reznik.  This time he busted out Bastions, Reznik, 3 Wracks, Reckoner, Guardian (the mace dude) and that little arc node with the shield and spear I forget its name.  I used my Grim list for this.  The map we rolled for the scenario had 3 Trenches, which granted a unit inside +4 def vs Ranged/Magic and also made me ignore Blast damage.  It rendered his Skyhammer rockets useless for the most part.  The match was that stupid Control the Mid Point scenario (Engines of Destruction) but this time I knew what was going on.  I remember on my first turn casting Cross Country on my Champs and driving them into the forest, and getting my Impaler within 8 inches.  I got my Mauler, second Impaler, and Grim + Gobbers into the trenches and kept them there for a good chunk of the game.

I ended up winning via Scenario, and just before my turn ended I also killed off his Caster with Grim in melee.  Just to see if I could.  I kept forgetting to use the Maulers animus which is bad, and I also forgot that Cross Country granted Eagle Eye, which would have let my champs charge his Bastions instead of taking a charge.  DOH!  I won’t forget that this time.  I also need to remember that the Fell Caller has a freakin spray attack!

All in all I had a grand time.  I have decided that to go to 750 I am grabbing Brun and Lug next.  I can’t help it.  Dorf + Baer = AWESOME.

The Brutal Truth

So yesterday on Rocktober 13th I picked up Brutal Legend. I had this game on preorder for over 3 months and was happy to get ahold of it.

So overall, so far I have enjoyed the game, save for 1 thing. And that is what I want to talk about. The RTS elements. There is no reason for them to be in this game. In fact, they drive me nuts. The controls for them are very basic, I can’t really command things easily, and I have to be in a specific radius of my units to even COMMAND THEM! And some of the boss battles are in fact RTS fights. The concept behind the RTS stuff is interesting. You are basically having a “rock” battle with each person having a stage, and you have to capture Fan Nodes to generate fans to buy merch to fuel your unit purchases.

Sounds like fun right? Cept for the controls and the order system. Your units are insane, the computer is damn smart, and the fights take forever. My personal favorite is when you face *SPOILER* General Lionwyte. Its this huge multilevel palace where you have to fight your way up. If you didnt find a couple of “tabs” or spells to help you the fight would literally take forever. PROTIP – Explore the world. Seriously. You will find 2 spells that make these blasted RTS sequences easier by a bit. Then right after that fight is yet ANOTHER RTS FIGHT. ARG

I love the game, the enviroments, and the story. But god help me I HATE THE RTS STUFF. WHY IS IT HERE?! I bought this game to rock and to massacre enemies, not to sit there and go YOU GUYS GO THERE NO NOT THERE ARG YOU ARE BEING KILLED! *head desk*

I had to stop after that last one. God help me anytime I have to use the “unit controls” and you will, alot, I die a little inside.

Calandra Completed!

But unpainted.  2 posts in 1 day, how insane.  So after a failed WoW raid (Ulduar 10, why do you hate me so?) I decided to put together my new trollish Gypsy.

Here she is:

Calandra

I also came up with what I think would be a solid 500 point “Brick Styled” list, which is as follows:

Faction: Trollblood
Points: 499
Model Count: 14
Victory Points: 18

Calandra Truthsayer, Oracle of the Glimmerwood
Troll Impaler
Troll Impaler
Dire Troll Mauler
Fell Caller
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes    [4] (0 added)
Trollkin Champions    [5]

The best part about this list is I already have everything!  Grim is fun but I am just having problems thinking the right way to use him.  I also keep screwing up with the Gobbers :P  I will get it but I want to try bricking.  Calandra was someone that, after I had read about her and her abilities (especially fury 7 and Star Crossed) I wanted to give her a try.  Now I have her.

I also may give a shot at painting her this Wednesday.  Possibly, maybe.
