Starting Over: Where to Begin?!

Its such a confusing place to be, back at the beginning of things.  I gotta get dice, paints, brushes, glue, ect.  I sold it all when I got rid of my Trollbloods.  Do I regret that?  Not one bit.  I needed the money first and foremost, and they were not being played.  I needed this break to sit back, and reevaluate what was important to me.  What did I find?  That I love the game of WarmaHordes.  That I was not satisfied with Trollbloods (in fact, after thinking about it I came to the conclusion that most of the Hordes factions are blended factions, but that is for another day), and that I wanted to play again.

So, I decided to go with the faction that interested me from the start:  Khador.  Thats right.  Throughout this whole time I have always wanted to play the big smashy russian inspired monsters that is Khador, and at no time did I ever get the chance.  I ended up impulse buying Cygnar (MISTAKE!) and then when I still couldn’t get Khador I went with Trollbloods (who were similar, but not completely like Khador, and wow I like parenthesis!)

I got my Khador book and have had time to digest it, and it is good.  The fluff is just what I imagined, and the units and playstyle is right up my ally.  SMASHY TIME GO GO.

But now I am stuck trying to figure out WHAT TO DO.  I did decide that Vassal will not be enough, and that I am just going to bite the bullet and get myself some metal and start working on playing again.  But I am at a loss as to where to start.

I figure I got 2 options, and I want your opinions.

1 – Buy the Battlebox:  Now I am not a big fan of Sorsha, but thats just because I think her feat is super cheesy.  Granted, she is a damn strong caster.  The plus to buying the battle box is, of course, a starter army.  I get 2 Jacks that, if purchased seperately, alone would cost more then the Box, and then having to get a warcaster would just add to that cost.

2 – Buy bits and pieces:  Option 2 invloves just buying models piecemeal and building a 15 point force.  I am starting small and staying that way for a while.  Now if I did this there are 2 Warcasters I was looking at:  pVlad, and pButcher.  But as to which to work with I am not very sure.  This would take longer to get going (as I could only buy 1 or 2 things a month) but would skip having Sorsha.

What do you all think I should do?

For the Motherland!

You know, after reading the forums, looking at the minis and the general playstyle, and the fluff, I cannot help it. I am going Khador. I thank all of you who have voted thus far in regards to which faction I should select. Merc’s were ahead I will admit, but in the end my decision reigns supreme!

The next thing I am going to do is grab me the Khador faction book, and start figuring out a 15 point list to run in Vassal. I am wanting to use either Starkhov or pButcher as my caster, and I know I want a Spriggan, but beyond that I have no idea what to do. Maybe a destroyer or a juggernaut? Something with a gun? Who knows. Kodiaks look pretty cool.

Any of you Khador guys out there feel like helping a brother out? I am basically treating myself like a total newbie (which in regards to Khador I really am) and want to start super small. And no, I have no intention of getting the battle box, mainly because I don’t want Sorsha.

Let the madness begin AGAIN (and yes, I intend later down the road to get ACTUAL dudes and paint them, but this is just starting out again)

Khador vs Mercs: The Debate still Rages!

Well I say the debate rages but in reality its not much of a debate for you all. Looking at the 12 votes I have gotten thus far, the Mercs are sitting at 8 and Khador at 4. Hilariously, the release date for the Merc book has been announced (hint, its July 7th) and that means there are 2 more weeks to vote.

For those curious, here is the poll again:

Now, if I recall correctly, this poll is mostly an opinion thing. In the end the choice will be mine, and I am really leaning towards the Khador stuff (Oh Butcher of Khardov and Starkov, you guys look so awesome) and the new plastic kit is pretty cool.

Honestly though, the prices for the Plastic Battleboxes are not different from the original counterparts (which is strange). $50 for a box of pewter made sense to me. The same price however for a box of plastic does not. And that bothers me. It doesn’t help that regardless of the Army if and when I do go back to little dudes and not just Vassal, I won’t be getting the Battle box. I intended in fact to just get a 15 point starter and go from there.

So in a few weeks (prolly the end of next week, July 2nd when I get paid) I will make my decision on which army to go with and I will get the book, or in the case of the Merc book preorder it. Anyone out there willing to setup a match with me via Vassal once I get the book so I can test out a 15 point Mangled Metal list? If so just comment here with your availability and we will work something out :)

In other news – New Trollblood Warlock Green was shown! He looks actually pretty awesome (and the gun is HUGE).

Check him out! (Click the picture to read the article about him)

His name is “Captain Gunnbjorn” which just oozes awesome. And the gun…jeebus that gun is scary. Wonder what he can do. Ranged is an obvious thing. I am assuming that gun is prolly an AOE 4 or so (its just so farking large) but I wonder how he will mesh with the standard Trollblood tricks.

Well guys thats all for today! For blood, coin, and the Motherland!

Building on a Budget – The Wild Hunt (Combo Deck)

So, another article about budget building and having fun with Multiplayer. This time I am going to talk about a deck that I actually have built, and played. I called it simply, The Wild Hunt.

Now, what is the Wild Hunt you might be asking? Well, its a Wolf Deck, built around the theme of Elves and their Wolfish allies. Originally this deck was Mono Green and it worked quite well (to the point where people apparently hate it when I play this) but now I am splashing blue, for a very specific reason.

How does this help a wolf deck you ask?

Well the basic premise of the deck is as follows: You use a bunch of elves to either produce mana (ramp up) or create wolves. Thats all. Then you use a few other cards to get the kill.

Here is the decklist:

4 Elvish Harbinger
4 Joraga Treespeaker
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Wolf-Skull Shaman
3 Wolfbriar Elemental
2 Wren’s Run Packmaster
2 Turntimber Ranger

4 Artificial Evolution
4 Howl of the Night Pack
3 Fable of Wolf and Owl
3 Beastmaster Ascension
2 Primal Rage

18 Forest
4 Simic Growth Chamber

So how does the deck work you ask? Well without the “combo” you can still get lots of wolves. But there are 2 main combos in the deck.

First up is the following:

What you do is play the Artificial Evolution and change the trigger of “Ally” on the Ranger to the word “Wolf”. Then, simply make a single wolf (the Packmaster is good for this). The instant you do that the Ranger fires off creating as many wolves as you want, for as long as you want. Infinite Wolves basically. Once you have all those wolves (with Deathtouch!) you can then cram them into an opponents face.

Second combo is a little different:

How does this one work? Well, you take the Evolution and you target the Treespeaker after the Treespeaker has been leveled to 5. You then change “Elves” to “Wolves” thus giving all your wolves the ability to tap for GG. Then, using the wolves AND elves (you did play 2 Treespeakers right?) to generate massive amounts of green mana, you drop a Wolfbriar Elemental and end up with double your wolves at the LEAST.

Now you are prolly saying “How are you gonna get these components?”. Well thats where the Elvish Harbinger comes in. Firstly and most importantly it lets you hunt for any elf you want (Hi Packmaster!) and secondly it taps for ANY color mana (HEY BLUE HOW ARE YOU!). You will most likely draw into one of the Evolutions, and if you never do, you will STILL make a ton of Wolves (trust me, Howl of the Night Pack is awesome for this).

So there you go, another budget Multiplayer deck that I personally run, and am very happy with! Let me know if you have any fancy decks, and in a week I intend to post another wacky deck for you all to mull over.

Infinite Bombardment – A Crazy Casual Deck

Once again I am making a crazy casual MTG Deck. Have I built this one yet? Nope. But I will admit that this creation comes from the combo that I found in this post right here. The basics of the combo are as follows:

With this you basically make infinite 1/1 tokens. But what can you really DO with that? Sure you can swarm an opponent, but they may have an answer for it. In the case of the Wacky Wednesday Epic post, he decided to use the tokens as the primary power source of Epic Struggle. However, I had another use in mind.

One of my favorite things to do is to use creatures and spells in odd ways. A good example of this is my “Strangest Goblin Deck Ever” which used Wort the Raidmother to copy some spells and then hit people with Goblin War Strike.

In this case however, I wanted to use the creatures as fodder, for a favorite spell of mine:

Fun stuff eh? Once I have that in play the 1/1 creatures suddenly become damage that cannot be stopped!

Here is the decklist!

4x Quirion Elves
4x Fyndhorn Elves
4x Llanowar Elves
4x Goblin Bushwhacker
4x Elvish Visionary

4x Squirrel Nest
4x Earthcraft
4x Harmonize
4x Goblin Bombardment
4x Overrun

4x Terramorphic Expanse
11x Forest
5x Mountain

So whats the point? Well all the mana elves just mean I can cast whatever I draw. The Quirion Elves are a mana fixer, while the rest are just mana. The Bushwhackers are there as a finisher (generate infinite tokens, cast a bushwhacker with the kicker, laugh insanely!)

The Harmonize and visionary’s make sure I have enough cards in my hand, and the Overrun is there for again, a secondary finisher if the Bombardment doesn’t hit the table.

Also the deck is made mostly of cheap cards, which again is awesome. So here is to another casual deck, inspired by anothers!

You can playtest the deck here – http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/infinite-bombardment/

Gamer ADD – Or “Darnit WARMACHINE!”

So, I am once again fighting the pull. In my last post I mentioned that I was considering playing Warmachine again, this time on Vassal only. You are probably wondering why I would even bother since I “quit” before. Well, let me break it down.

Since I quit, I had a large number of people tell me I shouldn’t, that I should just take a break and come back. That kinda tugged at me and I have not forgotten it.

I have still been getting the No Quarter magazines and I still read them, and what I am seeing I like.

The game store I frequented for this was very warm when I went to do the Brushfire demo (including getting a hug from one of the players, which was VERY random).

However, I am still not sure if I want to invest money again into playing. I will admit, I was not happy with the Mk2 Trolls, and Hordes in general. I have issues with the fury mechanic, but I won’t get into that here.

Now, several times, Owen of FarFarAway has mentioned that I have “Gamer ADD”, and I finally explained something to him and I will explain it here.

I have actual Attention Defeceit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. I have had it since I was a small child, and used to be on Meds for it. So yea, my attention tends to shift from game to game. Its nothing unusual for me personally, its just the way I am. Frankly, the fact that even when I AM NOT PLAYING WARMACHINE I want to play it makes me amused in a way.

So, here is the “plan” as it were. I want to play Warmachine again, but I don’t want to invest money right this minute. So my plan is to purchase a Forces of Warmachine book for the faction I am interested in, and play solely on Vassal against anyone who is interested.

The two factions I am interested in are Khador, and Mercenaries. You all know how I feel about Mercs (I did enough articles on them) and Khador just have always been something I have wanted.

I leave it to you all to suggest which faction I would like, and then if you want leave a comment as to why you feel that one is the one I should go for. I intend to take these votes into account when I finally decide.

Here is the poll!

Finally, I will close this poll the day that the Forces of Warmachine: Mercs comes out (or when I catch that it did)

So let me know folks.
