So Nintendo has decided to get into the “Plug n Play” market, with an officially licensed and produced product, the NES Classic. This is a mini NES with 30 built in games, and will have an MSRP of $59.99 and include a single controller.
Apparently it has been announced it will also have 2 player support, and save fuctionality, but cannot use NES Carts nor have any internet access. So basically, its like the Atari Flashback, the Sega Genesis Classic Console, the Intellevision Flashback, or the Colecovision Flashback. I am ok with this. In fact, personally, this is about the only way I would get back into Retro gaming anymore.
Further its got a decent selection of games built in. From what I have found, these are the games that will come with it:
Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
Donkey Kong Jr.
Double Dragon II: The Revenge
Ghosts N’ Goblins
Mega Man 2
Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Personally I am most interested in the Zelda games, Mega Man 2, Ninja Gaiden, Metroid, Castlevania 1 and 2, Final Fantasy, and Double Dragon II. The rest are sorta eh. Maybe Kirby could be fun. Kinda upset Castlevania 3 isnt on here, or more Mega Man games.
Found most of this out from Polygon.
The system has a USB Cable for power, but does not include an AC Adapter attachment. Which is odd and kind of annoying. Also, the controller can apparently be used with a Wiimote, and there will be an additional controller available for the estimated price of $9.99 if you want 2 players. It also uses “suspend points” aka save states so you can easily pick up an play.
