Fun on a Sunday

So when we last left our intrepid hero he was cursing up a storm about painting! To his surprise, a man named Tim appeared and offered to play against him. Our hero accepted this challenge, and today the DICE WERE ROLLED.

Tim was one of the people who commented on my very profane rant post from last week, and me and him after that began chatting via email. We agreed to meet for a game today, and we also convinced our friends Dan (for me) and Troy (for him) to show up and play. Let me tell you, me and Dan both had a blast and DID NOT PLAY A SINGLE GAME AGAINST ONE ANOTHER WHOOO! Dan actually played 3 games vs my 2. 2 against Troy, one against Tim.

I wanted to talk briefly about the game vs Troy first. It actually was my second game, and was a Battlebox Cryx vs Trolls game. What I did not know was Mangled Metal (Which is what a battlebox game is) has the win condition of kill the caster OR all their warjacks/warbeasts. Troy managed to kill all my jacks, and won. He was great fun to play against, knew the rules well and was very patient.

The game with Tim however was EPIC. We played a 25 point game, and I brought my pGaspy list. Mainly because Tim had never faced Gaspy.

For the record that list is:
– 2x Deathripper
– Slayer
Max Bloodgorgers
Gerlak Slaughterborn
Warwitch Siren
2 points left over

I don’t have a model to fill that last 2 points. Gorman eventually, maybe?

He brought the following:

– Charger
– Sentinal
– Centurion
Max Gunmages
– Gunmage UA
Gunmage Captain Adept (The gunmage solo)
Black 13th

The game was a knockdown dragout slugfest of awesome. And here is where it got HILARIOUS. Eventually the game came down to me with pGaspy only, vs Tims remaining forces of All 3 Jacks, 2 Gunmages, Stryker, and the Gunmage Solo.

I told him that I REFUSED to just give up! Cause I knew, deep down, that Toruk would lend me strength and allow me to win! So on my fourth to last turn I teleported pGaspy behind a house, forcing him to move up. Next turn I walked out, got Parasite on the Centurion who had only taken 3 damage from a Corrosion effect. Then I teleported to the other side of some rough terrain. On his turn he moved everything up again, and took a few shots and did a bit of damage (I was camping 2). Next turn I put all my chips in and I CHARGE THE CENTURION! I had used my feat a while back so it was 6 focus vs an Arm 18…and within 2 hits I got his shield down. 4 focus left. Within the next 2 hits I got him to literally 1 box left…on his spear arm >.>

It was DO OR DIE! Teleport away, or weather the storm. TORUK PROTECT ME I took the last hit (thank god for sustained attack). Hit, killed the Centurion.

On his turn he dumped EVERY Shot into me. And…only took me down to half. He left pStryker within charge distance of Gaspy. 7 focus on my turn, Charge, boost, hit, and begin the sustained attack. 3 focus later and I won.

Sweet mother of god I should not have won. Next week the league starts and I will be going in on Sunday’s to participate. Mostly against Troy and Tim to start. Its a slow grow and I am gonna use my Cryx. Lets see what happens next week!

Holy Hell, Updates Away!

I know I know its been a while. Like, 3 weeks or so since I last updated? I have not had a single chance to play Warmahordes in all that time sadly.

Truth be told, the warmachine groups around here have dried up, or rather, where I moved!

Thats right, I moved at the end of February. And thats the MAIN reason I have not posted. That and…Mass Effect 3. I LOVE MASS EFFECT 3. I am on my second playthrough point of fact (I lost my old ME2 save though, had to download one from, thanks guys!)

Let me talk about ME3’s biggest controversy. The ending. I did not mind it. It was not what I would have hoped BUT I did actually understand it. I would however like to see it expanded. The ranting and raving from people who feel entitled to a different ending is grating on my nerves. I get it, you are unhappy. I really do.

But using a charity to try to force Bioware to change things? Doing complaints against Bioware with the BBB / FTC for FALSE ADVERTISING?! Seriously. If you have not read the news stories do a search on google. ITS INSANE. The things these people are doing make me ashamed to be a gamer.

Bloody hell, stupid whiners.

In Warmahordes news: Gonna try to reinstall Vassal and start trying to get some games in.

Also decided I am gonna pick up some primer, paints, and Venethrax. Given the mix of dudes I have, Venethrax seems to be the best option for me. That and he plays like BUTCHER!

To put it in terms from Scott of Chain Attack, “Upkeep Dragon Slayer, Camp Focus, RUN STRAIGHT AT EM!” It sounds like my kind of fun haha. ARM 24? YES PLEASE.

15 Point Venethrax List:

– Slayer
– Reaper
Gerlak Slaughterborn
Min Bloodgorgers

Lots of models at a low point game. And it lets Venethrax either camp or give a bit of Focus to the 2 heavies. I really want Mortenebra, but I don’t have the jacks to support her.

And I gotta call Blizzard it seems. For some reason my WoW Account cannot sign up for the Annual Pass, but the email support won’t give me a reason. This pisses me off. My wife was fine, signed up, but me? Nope can’t do it.

Fun times >.>

Photodump: The Crucible

So Saturday me and Dan went to support the new tournament / convention that just started up down here, called The Crucible. While we were not participants in the event (sadly) we did get our own game in towards the evening, and got to watch alot of dice get tossed and people crushed. The winner of the event (which I have no idea yet who won) gets to pick an entire professionally painted 35 point army of their choosing. Basically they get to pick caster, jacks, units, solos, everything they want just the way they want it, and get to pick a scheme.

So whomever came out on top today is gonna be a happy person!

The event itself was well run, and very organized. There was little confusion that I could see when rounds changed, and they even had 2 different tournaments running at the same time, and was able to keep them organized. Another cool thing was that even the people who lost their matches got a raffle ticket, and those were called periodically throughout the day to win prizes, such as Plastic Jack Kits, decorative bases, and even Portable Warfare Army Transports. I happen to use the APC for my Cryx, works great.

I had Dan taking pictures with his phone’s camera, as my camera was unable to be found. They are not the best, and he didn’t get alot that came out, but here is what he did get.

For me and Dan we played 15 points Cryx vs Circle. I took the following:

– Reaper
– Slayer
– 2x Deathripper

Dan took the following:

Kromac the Ravenous
– Gnarlhorn Satyr
– Gorax
– Argus
– Shifting Stones with Stone Keeper UA

Dan actually managed to eventually destroy all my jacks, and he was left at that point with just a Gorax and Kromac. But he made a fatal mistake. He didn’t pay attention to the fact that the Gorax had only 7 boxes left, and he also ignored the fact that on his last turn he had put Kromac with his back arc facing Gaspy.

So I got my 7 focus, and charged Kromac in the back arc, boosted my charge attacks hit roll, hit, and then began to saw him. I was left with 4 focus by the time I murdered Kromac. And you know what? I think I am starting to get the hang of Cryx!

Still wish I had 2 Nightwretches instead of Deathrippers though. The guns would have been more useful I think.

Randomness is Fun! As are PODCASTS

Another day, another random ass post. I don’t even know what I am going to talk about. I mean there was ALOT of news last night but..everyone and their brother already discussed it! So while I will mention it, I won’t really give it much time.

Crxy Spiderjack Box Set – Awesome
Hordes Plastic Warpacks – EVEN MORE AWESOME (Lookin at you TROLLS and SKORNE)

There, I said my piece about them.

So Saturday on my new twitter account (@LichLordClay) I will be reporting from the Crucible for the afternoon things, as I have go in the morning for an oil change. I might even play a few small 15 point games with that pGaspy list I discussed in my last post in the comments.

Here is the list in question:

– Slayer
– Reaper
– 2x Deathripper

I really wish I had Nightwretch’s instead of the Deathripper’s though. That way I could actually shoot things instead of having to just have 2 arc nodes that I DONT want in melee. I might proxy em to try out the Nightwretchs.

I want to talk Podcasts for a minute.

I have now listened to 3 podcasts (or episodes from 3) and wanted to mention my thoughts on em.

Chain Attack – My favorite of the 3. I love their style, their humor is not forced at all and they seem very unbiased. I have learned quite a bit from the various battle reports. I have listend to EVERY episode thus far. And I also drink the Cygnar Haterade.

Lost Hemisphere Radio – I am not a fan honestly. I listend to about 4 episodes, and found that the humor seems really forced (And not funny really to me). Because of this, I cannot enjoy the podcast. I still like the blog, but thats about it. Oh and their intro is STUPID loud. I had to turn my volume down when it came on, then back UP to hear em.

Elite Cadre – I find this one somewhere between Chain Attack and Lost Hemisphere. Despite chatting with one of the hosts frequently (HI KURT) I still find a few things messed up. The intro music is a tad loud to me, but not like the LHR stuff. I think there is a bit too much dead air sometimes in the early stuff, but so far (I am on Ep 6 as I write this) it seems to have gotten better. I do like the tourny reports! I will continue to listen to this one.

I think next I am gonna check out Guts and Gears and Focus and Fury.

Oh and I did have a question for my Cryxian friends!

How would Dark Guidance and pSkarre’s feat work with a Stalker, since it has Extended Control range?

From the Grave…

Rises one thought dead…one thought gone…

Yes I am being all DRAMATIC and whatnot. But hey, I can be that way. Considering I have not posted here since October, and really just have not had the time to do so, I can be all cryptic.

Oh, and I am playing Warmachine again as of this past weekend (the 28th)

And I have forsaken the motherland.

To go with the fact that I have been dead to the Warmachine community and whatnot, I have chosen to follow those master of undeath, the Cryx. I have tried to stay away from miniature gaming but, sadly, I keep being drawn back to it. There is something just…fun…about pushing little dudes around on a table wrecking each other.

Me and Dan have made a gentlemens agreement as it were. Mostly for me honestly.

1 – I cannot buy any more minis till what I have is painted (cept for Cankerworm!)

2 – We won’t play above 25 points.

Odd rules right? The painting is so that way I at least can try to get better. I don’t want to do classic Cryx black though. I was thinking either a deep blue (to go with the island / sea thing) or a bright venom green to go with the corrosion theme.

Leaning towards the blue, since I want something DEEP blue (almost purple). And its gonna be tabletop standard so no highlighting (I still don’t grasp the concept of it, don’t ask)

Maybe a nice deep purple…hrmm. Oh and I am gonna use GW Paints, I am used to em.

Also, here is what I own for Cryx now:

2x Deathripper

Warwitch Siren

Basically a battlebox (the plastic one), pGaspy, and the Siren.

I want a Cankerworm to go with pGaspy. I like the mini its nifty.

So me and Dan had our first game in over a year on Saturday. It was Circle Battlebox vs Cryx Battlebox.

And Dan won. It really came down to the wire. He managed to wreak each of my jacks, and I got rid of everything but one Argus… and of course Kaya. He had to cut himself several times to get fury, and Kaya had managed to be harmed by Corrosion…and had like 3 boxes left.

He charged Denny, boosted his hit roll, and managed to hit her AND get a crit (rolled 2 fives and a six, hitting Denny). He then rolled MAX damage, and dropped Denny to 2 boxes, and knocked her down with the crit. Bought another attack and mauled Denny. That little battlebox game took 3 hours haha. It was so much fun.

Oh and before you ask, about the 25 point max limit:

Me and Dan like small point games. We feel in those games each model and unit REALLY matter. You have to make hard choices at those small levels on what to take. You can’t just take a bunch of the best stuff and drive it down your opponents throat. What do you take when you are limited in points? Thats what we like. It gets VERY strategic at that level.

In other news:

Me and Dan are going to be starting our own board and card game design company. We already have a card game laid out and ready for being prototyped, and I am designing a tactical board/war game that uses hex tiles to build the board, and uses tokens to represent the units. Should be pretty cool.

More to come on that front.

I am honestly surprised this place still gets hits AND has subscribers too. So HI FOLKS!

The Weekend in Review (Warmachine, Malifaux, Heroclix, OH MY!)

Oh my god, I am actually POSTING! Scandalous! Hopefully I will have more stuff for you guys in the coming weeks, whether it be Warmachine, Malifaux, Heroclix, or gaming in general. Who knows. Warning, there is some R rated stuff in here (words really, just stuff like F*** and whatnot)

So Friday I got a newsletter from Cool Stuff Games talking about a few sales. One that caught my eye was a Brick of either DC Justice League or Marvel Avengers Heroclix, for $30, which is a steal! (For those not in the know, a brick is 10 boosters, usually runs around $80-$100). I bought one, and then went up to my local game store with it to break it open. I was hoping for a Hulk. I did not get it this eve.

Saturday I hung out with my friend Dan. We decided that we would try Malifaux, and I ended up getting him a fate deck and his chosen starter as his bday / xmas gift. He chose Marcus, and I choose Seamus. We went back to my place, assembled them (fuckin hard to assemble undead whores! Yes, that is all true. I had to assembled undead hookers). And then I cooked my wife some food and we went out for lunch. While we ate I called over to Phoenix Games to see how busy they were. Turns out a PTQ was going on, and they figured it would not slow down till the evening. At the time, I decided not to go.

Later on in the evening, around 7pm I got a call from the store, asking me if I wanted to come in and play a game or two of Warmachine against some new players. Me and Dan had not tried out Malifaux yet either, and they told me that the MTG stuff had slowed down. So we went. Dan ended up playing a new Cryx player and I helped them.

Dan played Kromac, Feral Warpwolf, and 2 Argus, while the Cryx gent used the battlebox. I tried to stay out of it and just answer rules stuff but we quickly found that the Cryx player had only played 1 game prior to this. So me and Dan explained the rules, and when Dan’s attempt at killing an overextended Denny (seriously, the new guy ran her RIGHT Up behind the slayer, and Dan ended up doing a 2 handed throw) failed, I showed how the new guy, named Frankie could win. Dan had left himself furyless and had feated so he had some damage on Kromac. I showed Frankie how to feat, explained what it did, then showed him how to shake effects, move away from the Argus, and arc Venom Spray. He rolled 3 6’s on Damage after hitting Kromac (BARELY!) which killed Kromac outright (Dice -4 on a Venom Spray is still dangerous!) Dan had a fun time, and so did Frankie. I explained then that Denny is a backline spellcaster, who uses Arc Nodes to blast opponents.

After that game, we played Malifaux (or tried) We were flubbing along till a guy who plays it down at a place in Kissimmee popped up and helped us out. Sadly for Dan, the cards were not with him. It didn’t help that Dan had not read the Rulebook and I was not explaining things well enough.

After I killed his Rattler with a Belle (cheating up to severe damage is fun) he tried to have his Cat (which had jumped on a roof!) fall down safely. He flipped a Red Joker for damage, which caused him to have to flip another card, and killed his own cat. That was..bad. I am not sure we played it right (can you cheat your own Red Joker? I know you cant cheat a black one…)

Dan seems interested still in Malifaux, but I think he will either buy some more beasts, or switch to a different crew. I want to pick up the Sonnia box now. Seamus is pretty well self contained, but I really want to try Criid. FIRE BALL!!!

I ended up going up to Phoenix Games for thier Sunday Clix tourney. My wife ended up calling (she wanted to spend the day with me and hadn’t told me, DOH!) so after the first round I had to leave. I beat my opponent, but gave him the win since I was leaving. Apparently they thought that was worthy of their “fellowship” prize, which was an LE Burgler Clix. Not bad, he will go in my collection. I then went home and spent the rest of the day playing World of Warcraft with my wifey! :D

Which reminds me, I still need to go thru my clix and organize em into Trades and Keeps!

Overall my weekend was good. I want to get some more Malifaux games in, but I think for the next few weeks I am gonna stay home and avoid spending money. I have a tendency to spend cash when I go out even when I don’t want to :P

Help me Choose!

So next week is yet another payday, and after doing some budgeting I discovered that I will have some extra cash. This of course means I want to get something.

But what?!

I have a variety of options, and I wanted to ask you good folks, my readers, what you think I should spend my lovely disposable income on. I will use a poll, and I will explain prior to the poll my choices and why I could use said item.

1) Beast-09 – Why would I need this? Do I need to explain it? Right now I only have 2 jacks: A Destroyer and a Juggernaut. Solid choices yes, but Beast would supplement them and give me a 3rd choice. Plus, I could add him to my current Butcher 25 point list and end up at 35, or switch out the Destroyer and fill the point totals with more infantry. A solid option, and a dangerous one to boot.

1a) Another Jack in General like the Kodiak, Spriggin (You suggest something in the comments)

2) Portable Warfare Transport + 2 Foam Trays – I have my little homemade box and foam trays but I have discovered I am QUICKLY outgrowing them. I am finding it harder and harder to cart everything around, and picking up an actual army transport would not be a bad idea. I would not need to get a full loadout of course, but I could nab the Portable Warfare Transport (I could do Local Pickup, hence why choosing this one) and some trays to go in it.

3) WHFB Island of Blood – The most expensive choice. This is for getting into a new game completely, and honestly is probably not my best choice. But…SKAVEN! Also I may be splitting the cost with my friend Dan, where he would take the High Elves and I would get the Skaven. So it could possibly equal out to the same cost.

4) Cryx Battlebox – What? Cryx? Battlebox?! WHAT?! Here is why. I currently have a long term goal of becoming a Press Ganger. To do this, I need 2 Battleboxes for the same faction, painted and ready to play. With the new plastic boxes I could very easily get going on that. Furthermore, I really like the playstyle of Cryx and I am starting to dig the look after seeing some nicely painted figs (Hi Seraphsong!). This would get me on the road to PGhood (considering I already HAVE a Khador Box).

These are the 4 (technically 5) options in front of me, but only 1 will be chosen! But the question really becomes which one?

What do you all think? Please take a second and vote on the poll, and then leave your comments if you wish!
